Living from the remotest time in the Serra da Estrela (high mountains in the North of Portugal) and despite of its obscure origin, the Estrela Mountain Dog may be considered as one of the oldest breeds of the Iberian Peninsula. 

For many centuries this four legged guardian has been the shepherds’ faithful comrade and assistant. Its job was, and still is in some areas, to guard the livestock. Today this versatile breed is also used as family dogs, property guardians or as search and rescue dogs.
